The Motor House
IS an Arts & Crafts house designed by the architect George Jack to house the chauffeur and cars for Rounton Grange, designed by Philip Webb but demolished in the 1950s. On the ground floor are 6 garages, 5 of them now converted into studios, and on the first floor is accommodation, originally for the chauffeur and his family.
In the early 1980s the painter Miles Richmond, with the painter and sculptor David Seaton, and the extraordinarily important figure of Harry Thubron, established an art school The Motor House, working for more than 20 years with our partners at the University of Hertfordshire, the Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, and Cleveland College of Art & Design, and it is within this tradition that we now seek to continue working, providing facilities for artists, and all forms of collaboration.
